depends on the design, a full frame CF would be about the same (or even more) weight as a shell only design in fiberglass.

but typically speaking CF is lighter.

you're not the only one that has heard that, I've been reading up on it since I'm dieing to put mine on now that it's nice out....

this is what I've found out through emails from sebon, vis and searching through h-t.
theoretically yes it can, but it's highly unlikely. The clearcoat helps prevent this and a good wax helps a lot too.
sounds strange but make something slippery than try to punch it at an angle. Now do the same thing with a non-slippery surface. Which one takes more damage?

Also make sure that the hood is properly adjusted, if it's stressed or loose damage is a lot more likely to happen.

CF and fiberglass weigh the same. Thing is, CF is stronger, so you can use less of it to make the product, which makes the end product lighter than the fiberglass and just as strong if not stronger.

Most companies make their CF hoods with one layer of CF where it's visible and the rest is glass. Looks good, but isn't all CF so it's not as light as it could be. Check with the company to see what the underside is made of.

CF is amazingly strong. My mirrors have yet to get a scratch, chip, crack and they been on for a good 6 montsh and its a daily driver and has been raced down dirt roads with cars in front.

There was a full race civic hood with no frame, just a hood made of fiberglass, weighed 7lbs from MB. I can't find them anymore. Definitely not the choice for a daily driver, but it's a good idea for those race nights.

From what I understand:

EG hood:

Stock: 35 lbs

Carbon fiber: Depends on the design. Fiberglass frame, cutting down the materials, frame, weave, etc. I've seen the lightest CF hood at around 14 lbs...some examples are up close to 20.

Fiberglass weighs just about as much as CF...it's not as strong, but it's cheaper. It's a trade off based on your personal preferance.

i hit a bird doing 95 and all that happened was a scratch in the gel(clear) coating and small crack.
